How will I gain experience?

Internships will help you gain experience, and are available at local institutions. Although it is not required, most students complete at least one placement. Typically, an internship is for three credit hours, requiring 120 hours in the field. You will be strongly encouraged to take advantage of this opportunity while at Mount Mercy. Students have interned at:

  • Anamosa Men’s State Prison, counselor
  • Juvenile Detention Center, youth worker
  • Public Defender’s Office, with attorneys and investigators
  • Local police departments
  • Community correctional facility/half way house
  • Department of Transportation, with the Investigative Unit
