How will
I gain experience?
Mount Mercy English majors gain experience through internships and through
many extracurricular activities.
The department helps
students find internships that suit their individual interests, talents,
and goals. Students have interned at:
- The Brucemore
Historical Site
- The National
Czech and Slovak Museum and Library
- The United Way
- The Alzheimer’s
Society of Cedar Rapids
- KGAN
- The Nebraska
Arts Council
- The Cedar Rapids
Gazette and several other newspapers
On campus, Mount
Mercy English majors write, edit, and design several publications: the
Honors Council Newsletter; the college newspaper, the Mount Mercy
Times; and the English department’s two annual magazines
-- The Paha Review (a creative writing magazine) and Perceptions
(a collection of literary criticism).
Mount Mercy English
majors are an interesting, talented, and ambitious group. One of them
is going to write and direct her own play this spring, one of them is
studying in the Czech Republic, one of them is going to study in Italy
next year, one of them has completed four internships, and one of them
regularly publishes columns in the Cedar Rapids Gazette.
