History is the investigation of social, economic, political, and cultural developments across the wide spectrum of peoples, from the beginning of civilization to the present.
A history major gains a deeper understanding of the human condition and the relationship between historical developments and contemporary social/political trends. As a history minor at Mount Mercy, you can combine an interest in history with one of a number of other majors offered by the college.
You learn:
• the techniques of finding historical primary sources and evaluating their relevancy to the topic under investigation.
• to write clear, effective, and concise analyses of issues you study, based on both primary and secondary sources.
• to present and summarize your work orally in a clear, concise manner, both in the classroom and in more formal settings.
Emphasis is placed on critical and analytical thinking, research, reading, writing, and speaking.The History Department Offices are located on First Floor Warde near the student lounge.
