Psychology
As a psychology major at Mount Mercy, you will prepare for entering
a human service profession, such as clinical psychology, counseling,
or a related field. The department of psychology presents a scientific
approach to the study of individual behavior and experience. The goal
is to provide you with an empirical and theoretical understanding of
the basic knowledge, concepts, and methods of psychology.
You may wish to pursue our interdisciplinary major that combines Psychology
and Business Administration. Courses like industrial psychology will
provide you with a greater understanding of how psychology is applied
in the workplace to increase employee motivation and job satisfaction.
You will also learn to evaluate job performance objectively.
At Mount Mercy you can use your psychology education to supplement training
in related professional programs like business, social work, or nursing.
Other complementary majors/minors include criminal justice and communications.
The Psychology Club will help you learn more about career paths and
give you the opportunity to socialize with other students with similar
interests. Many students attend psychology conferences held throughout
the Midwest. Both on and off campus, you will have great opportunities
to gain invaluable experience while at Mount Mercy.
