Q: What is the RN to BSN program?
A: The RN to BSN program is an accelerated program offered by the nursing department at Mount Mercy College that allows working RNs with a three-year work history to complete their bachelor of science in nursing. [back to top]

Q: What does "accelerated" mean?
A: The program is accelerated in a number of ways. First, classes are offered in five-week blocks one night a week from 5:30-9:30 pm. There are nine blocks every calendar year. Students may enter at any time to take elective and general education courses. Each January a nursing cohort begins, and the nursing sequence runs from January through December. [back to top]

Q: What are the admission requirements?
A: Requirements for admission are:

  • minimum age of 23 years

  • three years of work experience as a nurse

  • GPA of 2.5 or higher

  • health exam and immunization update

  • health insurance

  • current and valid RN licensure in Iowa

Q: How can credits be earned toward a BSN?
A: Besides taking classes, credit can be earned by direct transfer, CLEP tests/Challenge Exams, Excelsior Exams, Credit for Prior Experiential Learning and taking courses. [back to top]

Q: How long will it take to earn a BSN?
A: It depends on the number of transfer credits accepted and the number of courses that are needed to meet graduation requirements. At the initial advising appointment, specific information for the student's program of study is discussed. [back to top]

Q: How much will it cost?
A: The tuition per credit hour for 2007-08 is $382. Therefore, a three-hour credit course will cost $1,146 plus the cost of textbooks. [back to top]
