Will you be attending another college on at least a half-time basis? If you plan to attend another college and are going to be at least a half-time student, you will probably qualify for an in-school deferment on your loans. This will keep the principal payments on your loans from coming due while you are in school on at least a half-time basis. In-school deferments are not automatic! You must apply for them on a semester-by-semester basis for each type of loan you have received previously.

The following is a list of the different loans you could have received at Mount Mercy College and the Web sites and/or phone numbers you can contact to receive deferment forms.

  • William D. Ford Direct Subsidized/Unsubsidized Stafford Loans
    1-800-848-0979  www.dlservicer.ed.gov
  • Federal Perkins Loan or McElroy Loan
    1-888-549-3274  www.ecsi.net
  • Iowa Teacher Shortage Forgivable Loan  1-800-383-4222
  • Bank of America Private Loan  1-800-344-8382
  • Citibank Citiassist Loan  1-800-745-5473
  • Iowa Partnership Loan  1-800-243-7552
  • Wells Fargo Collegiate Loan  1-800-658-3567

Once you have secured the appropriate deferment form(s), they need to be certified by the Registrar's Office at your new school and forwarded to the appropriate loan company each semester.
