In order
to complete any online counseling or promissory notes you need
to have a valid FAFSA PIN number. If you do not already have a
valid FAFSA PIN number, you must go to the Department of Education's
PIN site at www.pin.ed.gov
and secure a PIN number. It may take up to two weeks to secure
a PIN. Once you have secured a PIN number, you may complete the
online counseling through the links below.
Perkins
Loan
- Log
on to ECSI's Web site at www.ecsi.net/promD1.
- Provide
you Social Security Number, last name, and date of birth.
- Provide
your FAFSA PIN when requested on the Student Authentication
Network page.
- Most
pages require that you accept the terms by checking a box at
the bottom of those pages.
- You
must provide complete reference information for yourself, next
of kin, and two additional references. Failure to complete all
lines accurately will keep this loan from disbursing to you
Mount Mercy Business Office account.
- PROMISSORY
NOTE - Read completely. Electronically sign at the bottom of
the page. The electronic signature includes a check off box
plus your full legal name.

D. Ford Direct Subsidized and Unsubsidized Stafford Loan
- On
the Department of Education's Direct Loan Service site at
www.dlssonline.com/index.asp
select Entrance and Exit Counseling located in the upper middle
section of the screen.
- Select
the option entitled "Take the Entrance Counseling Session."
- Click
"Begin the Entrance Counseling tutorial and quiz."
and read through the screens carefully making sure to follow
the directions.
- At
the end of the tutorial there is a short quiz. You must answer
80% of the questions accurately to pass. You may
make three tries to pass the quiz. If you cannot pass the quiz
within three tries you will need to contact the Financial
Aid Office.
- Once
you have passed the quiz you will be able to print and
sign the bottom of the Rights and Responsibilities checklist.
- Turn
in your signed copy of the checklist to the Financial Aid Office.
- Your
funds will be distributed toyour student account only after
your signed Rights and Responsibilities checklist is turned
in to the Financial Aid Office.
- The
Master Promissory Note is online at
https://lo-online.ed.gov/empn/unsecure/completenew.jsp
- The
first page on the site details the 10-step process involved
in completing the Master Promissory Note For Direct Loans. Follow
the directions on each screen until your Promissory Note is
signed electronically.
- Print
a copy of your completed promissory note for your records
before exiting the Web site.
PLUS
Loan (Parent Loan for Undergraduate Students)
- The
Master Promissory Note is online at
https://lo-online.ed.gov/empn/unsecure/completenew_plus.jsp
- The
first page on the site details the 10-setp process involved
in completing the Master Promissory Note For PLUS Loans. Follow
the directions on each screen until your Promissory Note is
signed electronically.
- Print
a copy of your completed promissory note for your records
before exiting the Web site.
