In order to complete any online counseling or promissory notes you need to have a valid FAFSA PIN number. If you do not already have a valid FAFSA PIN number, you must go to the Department of Education's PIN site at www.pin.ed.gov and secure a PIN number. It may take up to two weeks to secure a PIN. Once you have secured a PIN number, you may complete the online counseling through the links below.

Perkins Loan

  1. Log on to ECSI's Web site at www.ecsi.net/promD1.
  2. Provide you Social Security Number, last name, and date of birth.
  3. Provide your FAFSA PIN when requested on the Student Authentication Network page.
  4. Most pages require that you accept the terms by checking a box at the bottom of those pages.
  5. You must provide complete reference information for yourself, next of kin, and two additional references. Failure to complete all lines accurately will keep this loan from disbursing to you Mount Mercy Business Office account.
  6. PROMISSORY NOTE - Read completely. Electronically sign at the bottom of the page. The electronic signature includes a check off box plus your full legal name.

William D. Ford Direct Subsidized and Unsubsidized Stafford Loan

  1. On the Department of Education's Direct Loan Service site at www.dlssonline.com/index.asp select Entrance and Exit Counseling located in the upper middle section of the screen.
  2. Select the option entitled "Take the Entrance Counseling Session."
  3. Click "Begin the Entrance Counseling tutorial and quiz." and read through the screens carefully making sure to follow the directions.
  4. At the end of the tutorial there is a short quiz. You must answer 80% of the questions accurately to pass. You may make three tries to pass the quiz. If you cannot pass the quiz within three tries you will need to contact the Financial Aid Office.
  5. Once you have passed the quiz you will be able to print and sign the bottom of the Rights and Responsibilities checklist.
  6. Turn in your signed copy of the checklist to the Financial Aid Office.
  7. Your funds will be distributed toyour student account only after your signed Rights and Responsibilities checklist is turned in to the Financial Aid Office.
  8. The Master Promissory Note is online at
    https://lo-online.ed.gov/empn/unsecure/completenew.jsp
  9. The first page on the site details the 10-step process involved in completing the Master Promissory Note For Direct Loans. Follow the directions on each screen until your Promissory Note is signed electronically.
  10. Print a copy of your completed promissory note for your records before exiting the Web site.

PLUS Loan (Parent Loan for Undergraduate Students)

  1. The Master Promissory Note is online at
    https://lo-online.ed.gov/empn/unsecure/completenew_plus.jsp
  2. The first page on the site details the 10-setp process involved in completing the Master Promissory Note For PLUS Loans. Follow the directions on each screen until your Promissory Note is signed electronically.
  3. Print a copy of your completed promissory note for your records before exiting the Web site.
