Events
The art department is a very busy group of people and we are always interested
in hosting events that serve our students in the best possible way. Some
events, such as High School Art Day,
the Children's Art Exhibit and the
Art Club Art Auction are local traditions
and benefitting the larger Cedar Rapids community and give our students
a chance to participate in supervisory or teaching roles.Monthly gallery receptions feature the work of important regional, national and international artists. Many of these artists willingly give artist lectures about the historical development of their work, which helps put the gallery exhibits in context. We also host lectures by non-exhibiting artists. These lectures sometimes tie into specific class content, but everyone in the Art department is invited. Many of these artists demonstrate particular techniques or processes that give students new ideas or approaches for their own work. Other past or current events include a campus-wide art film series, the New Genres course installations in the downtown Cedar Rapids Quality Chef building, student presenters during the annual Undergraduate Scholar's Day, "bonding" parties and trips for art majors and minors, the College-Exchange Exhibits and Competitions with other area colleges and our own annual Student Summer Art Exhibit and Competition. |
