December 2005 Athletes of the Month

Matt Spreacker
Senior/Men's Basketball
Hometown: Pella, Iowa

Matt claims the award for the second month in a row after leading the men's basketball team in nearly every statistical category. In seven games, he averaged 18.9 points and 8.9 rebounds per contest while shooting 58 percent from the field and 72 percent from the free throw line. Matt also hit 44 percent of his 3-point attempts and handed out nearly four assists per game. He also played well at the defensive end, averaging 2.1 steals and 1.3 blocked shots per outing. Matt had three double-doubles in December and scored at least 20 points four times. He put up 18 points, 13 rebounds and six assists in a win over Trinity International University (Ill.), and tallied a season-high 27 points, 11 boards and four steals in a victory at Palm Beach Atlantic University (Fla.).

Dani Anderson
Junior/Women's Basketball
Hometown: Cedar Rapids, Iowa

Dani was the leading scorer on a balanced Mount Mercy squad during the month of December, averaging 9.6 points in eight games. She made almost 50 percent of her field goal attempts, including 8-of-9 from 3-point range. Dani was also 9-of-11 at the free throw line for 81 percent. She was named Most Valuable Player after leading the Mustangs to their first championship at the Ninth Annual Clarke College Holiday Tournament in Dubuque, Iowa. Dani had four double-digit scoring performances, two of which came at the Clarke tournament. She scored 13 points in a semifinal victory over the host Crusaders, then nailed three 3-pointers and finished with 17 points and four assists in the title-clinching win over Hanover College (Ind.).
