February 2006 Athletes of the Month

Matt Spreacker
Senior/Forward/Men's Basketball
Hometown: Pella, Iowa

Matt earns his third athlete of the month award this season after a tremendous month. He averaged 17.6 points, 6.3 rebounds, 3.1 assists and two steals over seven games. Matt also shot 60.8% from the floor and 78.9% from the free throw line. He posted his eighth double-double of the season with 23 points and 10 boards against regular season Midwest Classic Conference champion William Penn University. Then, in Mount Mercy's season finale at 17th-ranked Iowa Wesleyan College, Matt poured in 25 points to become the 16th men's basketball player in school history to join the 1,000-point club. In just two seasons, he totaled 1,006 points to rank 16th all-time. For the second year in a row, Matt earned first-team all-MCC honors and was academic all-conference.

Jenni Baker
Junior/Guard/Women's Basketball
Hometown: Madrid, Iowa

Jenni had the best month of her career, averaging 12.4 points, 3.8 rebounds, 2.5 assists and 2.3 steals per contest. She connected on 40.8% of her field goal attempts and shot 89.5% from the free throw line. Jenni was 51-of-57 at the foul line in eight games, including a school record 17-of-19 performance against William Penn University in the first round of the Midwest Classic Conference tournament. She finished with a career-high 24 points against the Lady Statesmen and shattered the 16-year-old school record for free throws made in a game while tying the mark for free throws attempted, both held by Joan Steffen.
