March 2004 Athletes of the Month



Meredith Vander Zee

Senior/Women's Track & Field
Hometown: Rock Rapids, Iowa

Meredith competed at the Emory University (Ga.) Invitational in Atlanta, Ga. She finished 19th out of 31 runners in the 100 meter hurdles with a time of :17.95 and finished sixth out of 27 runners in the 400 meter hurdles in 1:06.84. The native of Rock Rapids also placed 10th in the high jump (4'-9 3/4") and long jump (15'-6 3/4") at Emory.




Justin Pegump

Senior Pitcher/Baseball
Hometown: Walford, Iowa

Justin had an outstanding month, picking up three victories while setting a pair of school records and maintaining a 1.12 earned run average. He tossed a two-hit shutout in a 3-0 victory at Lindsey Wilson University (Ky.), got the win in a 13-2 decision at Auburn University Montgomery (Ala.) and allowed just three hits in a 5-0 victory over Martin Luther College (Minn.). The Walford native tied the school mark for consecutive scoreless innings at 18 2/3 and also struck out seven batters against Hannibal-LaGrange College (Mo.) to become Mount Mercy's all-time strikeout leader.



Jason Drewelow

Senior/Men's Track & Field
Hometown: Cedar Rapids, Iowa

In March, Jason ran the 55 meter dash at the NAIA Indoor Track & Field National Championships and competed at the Emory University (Ga.) Invitational in Atlanta, Ga. At Emory, he finished seventh and set a school record with a time of :10.98 in the 100 meter dash.
