Posted 8/27/07 3:02 PM

CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa -- Defending Midwest Collegiate Conference champion Mount Mercy College collected 10 points and came in at No. 31 in the 2007 NAIA women's cross country preseason poll released Aug. 22.

The Mustangs return seven letterwinners from last year's MCC title team, including 2006 NAIA national championship qualifiers Mallory Marshall and Katie Larsen. Marshall, a sophomore, was the 2006 MCC Harrier of the Year and an NAIA all-Region VII performer. Larsen, a senior, was the 2005 MCC Harrier of the Year and is a two-time all-conference and two-time all-region standout.

Mount Mercy is one of four NAIA Region VII teams and only two MCC squads listed in the preseason rating. Olivet Nazarene University (Ill.) (141 points) and St. Xavier University (Ill.) (39 points) of the Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference (CCAC) are seventh and 24th, respectively, while MCC rival St. Ambrose University sits at 35th with two points.

Mount Mercy opens the 2007 season hosting the 14th Annual Mustang Gallop on Saturday at 10:00 a.m. at Jones Park, then travels to South Bend, Ind., for the National Catholic Championships hosted by Notre Dame University on Friday, Sept. 14, at 5:00 p.m.
