Mercy women earn votes in NAIA preseason poll

RAPIDS, Iowa -- Defending Midwest Collegiate Conference champion
Mount Mercy College collected 10 points and came in at No. 31
in the 2007 NAIA women's cross country preseason poll released
Aug. 22.
The Mustangs
return seven letterwinners from last year's MCC title team, including
2006 NAIA national championship qualifiers Mallory Marshall and
Katie Larsen. Marshall, a sophomore, was the 2006 MCC Harrier
of the Year and an NAIA all-Region VII performer. Larsen, a senior,
was the 2005 MCC Harrier of the Year and is a two-time all-conference
and two-time all-region standout.
Mount Mercy
is one of four NAIA Region VII teams and only two MCC squads listed
in the preseason rating. Olivet Nazarene University (Ill.) (141
points) and St. Xavier University (Ill.) (39 points) of the Chicagoland
Collegiate Athletic Conference (CCAC) are seventh and 24th, respectively,
while MCC rival St. Ambrose University sits at 35th with two points.
Mount Mercy
opens the 2007 season hosting the 14th Annual Mustang Gallop on
Saturday at 10:00 a.m. at Jones Park, then travels to South Bend,
Ind., for the National Catholic Championships hosted by Notre
Dame University on Friday, Sept. 14, at 5:00 p.m.
