race at NAIA Mid-States Championships

WINFIELD,
Kan. -- The Mount Mercy College women's cross country team finished
ninth and the Mustang men 17th at the NAIA Mid-States Championships
on Saturday at Southwestern College (Kan.).
Senior Katie
Larsen and sophomore Mallory Marshall led the women's squad, finishing
34th and 35th, respectively, with nearly identical times. Larsen
crossed the finish line in 20:08.39, Marshall in 20:08.77. Freshman
Erin Behan was 49th in a field of 210 runners with a time of 20:32.58.
Freshman Kori Yotter came in 55th (20:37.08), senior Katie Schlutz
58th (20:42.14), senior Heather Collum 80th (21:02.30), senior
Melissa Caster 82nd (21:03.59), sophomore Kortney Kluesner 117th
(21:47.30), and freshman Amanda Callender 177th (23:43.90).
Senior Matt
Hilby led the way for the men's team, placing 99th in a field
of 234 racers with a time of 29:13.49. Junior Bryan Johnson was
110th (29:21.68), sophomore Scott Becker 113th (29:27.26), senior
Greg Blythe 134th (29:49.26), sophomore Matt John 188th (31:34.42),
freshman Matt Clarke 208th (33:07.41), and freshman Aaron Stephens
210th (33:13.03).
This weekend,
Mount Mercy hosts the 2007 Midwest Collegiate Conference Championships
on Saturday at 10:00 a.m. at Jones Park in Cedar Rapids, Iowa.
The Mustangs will be going for their second straight women's title
and sixth overall while looking to extend their streak of 10 straight
years that a Mount Mercy woman has won the MCC individual title.
Marshall was the 2006 MCC Women's Harrier of the Year and was
joined on the all-conference squad by teammates Larsen, Chelsea
Kvidera, and Collum. Johnson was an all-conference performer for
the Mustang men, who will compete for the second MCC men's cross
country title in school history.
