defeat Mustangs on Seniors Day

CEDAR RAPIDS,
Iowa -- Ashford University took a 39-33 halftime lead and went
on to defeat Mount Mercy College, 77-67, in a critical Midwest
Collegiate Conference men's basketball game on Seniors Day Saturday
at Hennessey Recreation Center.
Ashford's
win moved the Saints (15-11, 7-7 MCC) into fourth place in the
MCC and dropped the Mustangs (12-14, 5-9 MCC) to eighth place
with two games remaining. Mount Mercy needs a pair of victories
next week to avoid a first round play-in game in the league's
postseason tournament, which begins on Monday, Feb. 25.
Senior forward
Curtis Kilgore scored 21 points and grabbed nine rebounds, both
game highs, for the Mustangs. Junior forwards Brandon Barnhart
and Travis Eagle and junior guard Lucas Blood added nine points
each. Barnhart also collected a game-high three steals and freshman
forward Marty Tope snared five boards as Mount Mercy outrebounded
Ashford, 33-27.
Cash Bimm's
20 points led five Saints in double figures. He also had a team-high
seven rebounds. Daniel Joiner and Matt Weber chipped in 13 points
apiece, Byron Emerson 12, and Justin Jackson 10. Emerson also
dealt a game-high four assists.
Mount Mercy
finishes the regular season on the road next week. The Mustangs
travel to NAIA Division II fifth-ranked William Penn University
(24-5, 12-3 MCC) on Wednesday for a 7:30 p.m. showdown at Penn
Gym in Oskaloosa, Iowa. They head to Viterbo University (Wis.)
(8-19, 3-11 MCC) on Saturday to take on the V-Hawks at 3:00 p.m.
at R.W. Beggs Gymnasium in La Crosse, Wis.
