snap skid with win over Crusaders

CEDAR RAPIDS,
Iowa -- The Mount Mercy College men's basketball team led from
start to finish and snapped a three-game losing streak with a
69-59 Midwest Collegiate Conference victory over Clarke College
Wednesday at Hennessey Recreation Center.
The Mustangs
(9-8, 2-3 MCC), who led by as many as 15 points late in the second
half, held a 41-30 advantage on the boards and shot 50 percent
from the floor. The Mount Mercy defense also played a huge role
in the win. The Mustangs limited the Crusaders (10-9, 3-2 MCC)
to 33 percent field goal shooting and held their opponent under
70 points for the just the second time in seven games.
Senior forward
Curtis Kilgore's 19 points and 11 rebounds led Mount Mercy. It
was his second double-double of the season. Junior forward Brandon
Barnhart added 17 points and seven boards, senior forward Brett
McGee 14 points, seven rebounds, four assists, and two steals.
Clarke's DeMonte
Bynum nailed five 3-pointers and finished with a game-high 30
points, six steals, five rebounds, and three assists. Michael
Okpalaeze chipped in 10 points and five boards, Demarvis Russell
eight points and five rebounds.
The Mustangs
go to Clinton, Iowa, on Saturday to take on Ashford University
at 3:00 p.m. at Kehl Arena. They host a pair of league foes next
week, including NAIA Division II ninth-ranked William Penn University
on Wednesday at 7:30 p.m. at Hennessey. Viterbo University (Wis.)
visits on Saturday, Jan. 26, at 3:00 p.m.
