DES MOINES,
Iowa -- A conventional three-point play by Damir Dzafic with seven
seconds left gave Grand View College a 65-63 victory over Mount
Mercy College in Midwest Collegiate Conference men's basketball
Monday at Charles S. Johnson Wellness Center.
An offensive
rebound and putback by senior center Steve Smith put Mount Mercy
in front, 63-62, with 15 seconds remaining. Speedy Grand View
point guard Nate Crawford went the length of the floor, however,
and found Dzafic for the game-winner. The Mustangs had one more
chance to tie, but junior forward Brandon Barnhart's leaner was
off the mark as time expired.
Senior forward
Curtis Kilgore hit all nine of his free throws and finished with
a game-high 20 points for the Mustangs (10-11, 3-6 MCC). Smith
ended up with 10 points, junior guard Eric Raasch eight. Senior
guard Dillon Allen snagged a game-high eight rebounds, leading
Mount Mercy to a whopping 48-27 advantage on the glass. Barnhart,
Kilgore, and Raasch had seven rebounds each.
Pat Hoberg
had 17 points, Crawford 14, and Dzafic 13 for the Vikings (7-15,
3-6 MCC). Reggie Hoegh snared six rebounds, Crawford dished five
assists, and Hoberg collected three steals in the win.
Mount Mercy
goes to Iowa Wesleyan College (9-12, 5-4 MCC) on Thursday for
a 7:30 p.m. tip at Ruble Arena in Mount Pleasant, Iowa. Next week
features a pair of MCC home games, beginning with Waldorf College
(12-9, 5-4 MCC) on Wednesday, Feb. 6, at 7:30 p.m. at Hennessey
Recreation Center in Cedar Rapids, Iowa.
