MOUNT PLEASANT, Iowa -- Brett Humpal's 3-pointer with 8:04 left gave Iowa Wesleyan College the lead for good as the Tigers defeated Mount Mercy College, 58-51, in Midwest Collegiate Conference men's basketball Thursday at Ruble Arena.

The Mustangs (10-12, 3-7 MCC) enjoyed their final lead of the game on junior forward Travis Eagle's layup with 15:34 to go in the second half. After two ties and a lead change, the Tigers (10-12, 6-4 MCC) took control to earn a sweep of the season series. Iowa Wesleyan edged Mount Mercy, 59-58, on Dec. 2. Six of the Mustangs' seven league losses have been by seven points or less this season.

Senior forward Brett McGee and freshman forward Marty Tope led Mount Mercy with 12 points each. It was a career-best for Tope, who also grabbed five rebounds. Junior forward Brandon Barnhart dished out four assists and snagged a team-high eight boards as the Mustangs held a 39-36 edge on the glass.

After scoring just three points in the first half, Humpal, the MCC's leading scorer at 18.7 points per game, finished with 13 to lead the Tigers. Matt Lafrenz and Josh Hogue chipped in 11 points apiece and Brad Leverston 10. Humpal also collected eight rebounds and Jason Garber handed out four assists.

Mount Mercy hosts a pair of league opponents next week, beginning with Waldorf College on Wednesday at 7:30 p.m. St. Ambrose University comes to town on Saturday for a 3:00 p.m. tip at Hennessey Recreation Center in Cedar Rapids, Iowa.
