FOREST CITY,
Iowa -- Waldorf
College's one-two punch of Evan Clasen and Jawaun Bowman was enough
to hold off Mount Mercy College, 64-63, in Midwest Collegiate
Conference men's basketball Wednesday at Hanson Fieldhouse.
Clasen and
Bowman went 6-of-7 from 3-point range and combined for 37 points.
The Warriors (8-6, 2-1 MCC) were 12-of-25 from beyond the arc,
off-setting 6-for-13 free throw shooting and a 34-30 rebounding
deficit. The Mustangs (8-7, 1-2 MCC) shot nearly 50 percent from
the field for the game, but were just 6-of-17 from long range
and 3-for-7 at the foul line.
Waldorf led,
62-52, with 9:30 left in the game before Mount Mercy began their
comeback. After an 11-2 run by the Mustangs, the Warriors led,
64-63, with 3:04 to go. But neither team would score another point
over the final three minutes and Mount Mercy lost by one point
for the third time this season.
Senior forward
Brett McGee tied a season high with 18 points, which included
three triples. Senior forward Curtis Kilgore added 17 points,
seven rebounds, and three steals, while senior center Steve Smith
came off the bench to contribute eight points and a game-high
nine boards. Junior guard Eric Raasch dealt four assists for the
Mustangs.
Clasen's game-high
20 points included a 4-of-5 performance from 3-point range. Bowman
chipped in 17 points. Shant Bicakci and Quentin Vaughn each collected
six rebounds and six assists for the Warriors.
