earn split at MCC-MCAC Challenge

Iowa -- The Mount Mercy College men's basketball team pounded
Peru State College (Neb.), 82-61, on Saturday to earn a split
at the MCC-MCAC Challenge hosted by Grand View College.
The Mustangs
(3-1) jumped out to a 47-26 halftime lead on the Bobcats (1-4)
and never looked back on the way to their highest point total
of the season. Mount Mercy shot nearly 50 percent from the floor
and owned a 44-37 rebounding advantage while limiting Peru State
to just 29 percent field goal shooting.
Senior forward
Curtis Kilgore led a balanced Mustang offense with 17 points.
Junior guard Lucas Blood and senior center Steve Smith added 10
points apiece. Senior guard Rodney Jackson scored nine points,
senior guard Dillon Allen and freshman forward Marty Tope eight
each, and senior forward Brett McGee tallied seven. Kilgore grabbed
a team-high seven rebounds, Allen dished out five assists, and
Jackson had three steals.
On Friday
night, NAIA Division II 17th-ranked Bellevue University (Neb.)
forced 29 turnovers and defeated Mount Mercy, 66-55. Kilgore posted
his first double-double of the season, going for 18 points and
a game-high 10 boards. He also collected six assists and a pair
of steals. Blood chipped in seven points and five rebounds, Smith
seven points and three assists.
The Mustangs
play in the Kiwanis Classic hosted by Iowa Wesleyan College this
weekend in Mount Pleasant, Iowa. Mount Mercy takes on Ozark Christian
College (Mo.) on Friday at 5:30 p.m. and Central Methodist University
(Mo.) on Saturday at 1:00 p.m. at Ruble Arena.
