CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa -- Mount Mercy College was plagued by foul trouble and couldn't stop hot-shooting Coe College in a 78-60 loss to the Kohawks in this year's version of the intra-city rivalry on Tuesday at Eby Fieldhouse.

The host Kohawks (1-2), who shot 55 percent from the field overall and 56 percent from 3-point range, ended Mount Mercy's three-game winning streak while picking up their first victory of the season. The Mustangs take a 5-2 mark into Sunday's non-conference contest against Loras College at 7:00 p.m. at Hennessey Recreation Center.

Senior forward Curtis Kilgore picked up three fouls in the first half and was never able to get into a rhythm Tuesday night. Mount Mercy's leading scorer was held scoreless before fouling out with 7:35 left in the game. Senior center Steve Smith was the lone Mustang in double digits with 14 points off the bench. Senior guard Rodney Jackson added eight, senior forward Brett McGee and junior forward Brandon Barnhart seven each. McGee also collected a team-high six rebounds.

Brian Brungard led all scorer's with 21 points, which included five of Coe's 14 3-point field goals. Kyle Kuenstling chipped in 16 points, four rebounds, eight assists, and five blocked shots. Rob Hanna had nine points and four assists, Jake Jacobs grabbed a game-high 11 boards.

After Sunday's tilt with Loras, Mount Mercy hosts Culver-Stockton College (Mo.) on Tuesday at 7:00 p.m. at Hennessey. The Mustangs host Iowa Wesleyan College in their Midwest Collegiate Conference opener on Saturday, Dec. 1, at 3:00 p.m.
