win third straight intra-city rivalry

CEDAR RAPIDS,
Iowa -- Mount Mercy College was plagued by foul trouble and couldn't
stop hot-shooting Coe College in a 78-60 loss to the Kohawks in
this year's version of the intra-city rivalry on Tuesday at Eby
Fieldhouse.
The host Kohawks
(1-2), who shot 55 percent from the field overall and 56 percent
from 3-point range, ended Mount Mercy's three-game winning streak
while picking up their first victory of the season. The Mustangs
take a 5-2 mark into Sunday's non-conference contest against Loras
College at 7:00 p.m. at Hennessey Recreation Center.
Senior forward
Curtis Kilgore picked up three fouls in the first half and was
never able to get into a rhythm Tuesday night. Mount Mercy's leading
scorer was held scoreless before fouling out with 7:35 left in
the game. Senior center Steve Smith was the lone Mustang in double
digits with 14 points off the bench. Senior guard Rodney Jackson
added eight, senior forward Brett McGee and junior forward Brandon
Barnhart seven each. McGee also collected a team-high six rebounds.
Brian Brungard
led all scorer's with 21 points, which included five of Coe's
14 3-point field goals. Kyle Kuenstling chipped in 16 points,
four rebounds, eight assists, and five blocked shots. Rob Hanna
had nine points and four assists, Jake Jacobs grabbed a game-high
11 boards.
After Sunday's
tilt with Loras, Mount Mercy hosts Culver-Stockton College (Mo.)
on Tuesday at 7:00 p.m. at Hennessey. The Mustangs host Iowa Wesleyan
College in their Midwest Collegiate Conference opener on Saturday,
Dec. 1, at 3:00 p.m.
