Ambrose Leads After Day One of MCC Tournament

Iowa -- A
windy day one of the Midwest Classic Conference Men's Golf Tournament
is in the books, with NAIA eighth-ranked St. Ambrose University
(299) holding a slim lead over Grand View College (302) and Iowa
Wesleyan College (303) in the team standings. Waldorf College
sits in fourth place at 321, followed by William Penn University
and Ashford University at 327 and Mount Mercy College at 331.
Drew Chuipek of St. Ambrose and Jordan Dye of Grand View share
the individual lead after each carded an opening-round 1-under-par
71 at Hunters Ridge Golf Course in Marion, Iowa. Jordan Crampton
of Iowa Wesleyan is in third after firing an even-par 72, followed
by David Roan of Grand View, who shot 73. Nathan Fisher of William
Penn and Dusty Drenth of St. Ambrose share fifth place with first-round
74s.
Senior Joe
Whitman led Mount Mercy on day one and sits in 17th place after
an 8-over-par 80. Sophomore Shane Parmenter carded an 81 and is
tied for 18th, sophomore Justin Leas shot 82 and is tied for 20th
and senior Ryan Flugum and junior Bryan Von Roden came in with
88s and sit in a tie for 31st.
Tee times for Sunday's final round begin at 10:03 a.m. at Hunters
Ridge. Players from Mount Mercy, Ashford and William Penn start
between 10:03-10:39 a.m., followed by competitors from Waldorf,
Iowa Wesleyan, Grand View and St. Ambrose from 10:48-11:24 a.m.
