Host North Country Classic

MARION,
Iowa -- The Mount Mercy College men's golf team hosted the annual
North Country Classic last weekend, finishing 13th out of 20 teams
at Hunters Ridge Golf Course. Senior Joe Whitman, competing as
an individual, tied for 20th with a 14-over par 158 total.
Midwest Classic
Conference rival St. Ambrose University won the tournament for
the second year in a row with a 598 total, nine strokes ahead
of Illinois Wesleyan University. Illinois Wesleyan White came
in third at 615, followed by Central College at 624 and Lindenwood
University (Mo.) at 626.
St. Ambrose
also had the top two players in the tournament, medalist Jimmy
Marinelli and runner-up Drew Chuipek. Marinelli finished 1-under
par with rounds of 71 and 72, while Chuipek ended up 2-over with
scores of 77 and 69. Joel Winters of Central (148), Michael Hasselbring
of Illinois Wesleyan (148) and Matt Wennmaker of Illinois Wesleyan
White (149) rounded out the top five.
Whitman posted
rounds of 78 and 80 while tying for 20th for Mount Mercy. Sophomore
Justin Leas tied for 42nd (85-77=162), sophomore Shane Parmenter
tied for 54th (83-82=165), junior Bryan Von Roden tied for 67th
(83-85=168), junior Ryan Flugum tied for 72nd (85-84=169) and
senior Dustin Moser placed 87th (87-88=175).
The Mustangs
will be in action Thursday and Friday at the William Penn University
Invitational. Tee times begin at 1:00 p.m. on Thursday and 9:00
a.m. on Friday at Edmundson Golf Course in Oskaloosa, Iowa. A
week later, Mount Mercy travels to Burlington, Iowa, for the Iowa
Wesleyan College Invitational Thursday and Friday, Sept. 28-29.
Tournament play gets underway at 8:30 a.m. both days at Burlington
Country Club.
