GALESBURG,
Ill. -- Mount Mercy College overcame an early deficit to defeat
Knox College (Ill.), 4-2, in non-conference action on Saturday.
It was the final regular season match for the Mustangs, who open
the Midwest Collegiate Conference Men's Soccer Tournament on Monday.
The hosts
got on the board first, taking a 1-0 lead in the 10th minute on
a goal by Jeff Wozencraft. But the Mustangs answered quickly,
with senior midfielder Chad Hollmer setting up sophomore midfielder
Derek Oja's goal in the 12th minute to tie the match. Freshman
midfielder Petar Triva's score gave Mount Mercy a short-lived
2-1 advantage, which was erased only a minute later by the Prairie
Fire's Abasam Onyia. Junior forward Nick Miller, on an assist
by Triva, put the Mustangs up, 3-2, minutes before halftime. Miller
assisted sophomore forward Zlatko Tomic's goal in the 49th minute
to end the scoring.
