Another Mustang hat trick in defeat of Kohawks

Posted 9/3/07 4:46 PM

CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa -- One week after freshman midfielder Petar Triva scored three times in his Mustang debut, junior forward Nick Miller pulled a hat trick in a 6-0 defeat of Coe College on Saturday in Lower Kingston Field.

The Mustangs (2-0-0) scored three goals in a span of four minutes early in the first period and the rout was on. Sophomore midfielder Derek Oja was the first to find the back of the net in the 13th minute on an assist by junior midfielder Jeff Wagner. Three minutes later, Triva assisted Miller's first goal to make it 2-0. Less than a minute later, Miller returned the favor as Triva notched his team-high fourth goal of the season.

Wagner also set up Miller's second score in the 24th minute before junior midfielder Tyler Turner blasted a long goal after senior midfielder Chad Hollmer was fouled in the 28th minute to make it 5-0 before intermission. The Mount Mercy defense, which limited the Kohawks (0-1-0) to just one shot on goal, kept the game out of reach, and Miller ended the scoring with his third goal in the 90th minute.

The Mustangs are on the road against Monmouth College (Ill.) on Monday at 4:00 p.m. in Monmouth, Ill., then host Upper Iowa University on Thursday at 5:00 p.m. at Lower Kingston.
