MUSCATINE,
Iowa -- The Mount Mercy College men's soccer team struggled offensively
and fell, 2-0, to St. Ambrose University in a Midwest Collegiate
Conference opener on Tuesday.
Freshman goalkeeper
Matt Quinlan did his best to keep the Mustangs (2-4-1, 0-1-0 MCC)
in the game, saving 11 shots on goal in the match. But the Bees
(2-4-2, 1-0-0 MCC) took advantage of scoring opportunities early
and late to hand Mount Mercy its fourth straight loss. The Mustangs
began the season with big wins over Calumet College (Ind.) and
Coe College, but have dropped four in a row since a 1-1 tie at
Monmouth College (Ill.) on Sept. 3.
Mount Mercy
continues conference play this weekend when it hosts Grand View
College on Saturday at 3:00 p.m. at Lower Kingston Field in Cedar
Rapids, Iowa. The Vikings began the year ranked 10th in the NAIA
preseason poll. Next week, the Mustangs take on Clarke College
in an MCC match on Tuesday at 4:00 p.m. at Lower Kingston.
