RAPIDS, Iowa -- The Mount Mercy College men's soccer team battled
19th-ranked Grand View College for 90 minutes on Saturday, but
couldn't muster any offense and dropped their fifth straight match,
2-0, at Lower Kingston Field.
James Mator
got the Vikings (6-3-1, 2-0-0 MCC) on the board in the 36th minute
to give Grand View a 1-0 lead. They held that lead and kept the
Mustangs (2-5-1, 0-2-0 MCC) in check the rest of the way, even
adding a late score by Lyall Menzies in the 85th minute of play.
Freshman goalkeeper Matt Quinlan saved a pair of shots before
leaving with an injury in the 18th minute. Freshman Lucas Altman
played well in Quinlan's absence, saving five shots over the final
72 minutes of regulation.
Mount Mercy
hosts Clarke College in MCC play on Tuesday at 4:00 p.m. at Lower
Kingston, then heads to Burlington, Iowa, to face Iowa Wesleyan
College on Saturday at 2:00 p.m.
