CEDAR RAPIDS,
Iowa -- Mount Mercy College has named Glenn Johnson its new head
softball coach, Athletic Director Scot Reisinger announced.
It’s
the first collegiate post for Johnson, president of the Cedar
Rapids Girls’ Fastpitch Softball Association since 1990.
He has also coached a girls’ ASA traveling softball team,
the Cedar Rapids Blue Devils, for 17 years. Johnson is a member
of the National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA) and holds
a One-Star Master Coach Certification from the NFCA.
Johnson, whose
daughter Kristin was an all-Big 10 standout for the University
of Iowa from 2000-03, replaces Joe Brinson, who resigned this
summer after two years with the Mustangs.
“We
are excited to add someone with Glenn's softball knowledge, but
also because of his strong ties to the local softball community,”
said Reisinger. “He has already impressed me with his ability
to organize and run a first-class program.”
Johnson, a
patent lawyer with Shuttleworth & Ingersoll, P.L.C., graduated
from the University of Northern Colorado in 1973 and earned a
J.D. from the University of Iowa in 1975.
