CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa -- Right-hander Mariah Early of Cedar Rapids Jefferson and catcher Katelynn Edwards of Marion have signed letters of intent to join the Mount Mercy College softball program, Head Coach Glenn Johnson announced.

Early has been a varsity player for four years and is a three-year letter winner for the J-Hawks. She was first-team all-Metro and second-team all-Mississippi Valley Conference as a sophomore. As a junior, Early was first-team all-district, first-team all-Metro, and first-team all-conference. Last season, Early was also a second-team all-state selection and was runner-up in the MVC Player of the Year voting.

Edwards has been a four-year varsity starter for the Indians. She has earned second-team all-WAMAC recognition and been a member of Marion’s Honor Roll.

Mount Mercy’s 2008-09 recruiting class includes six players. Early and Edwards join Becca Smith of Solon, Therese O’Shea of Glenbard South (Ill.), and Sheena Canady and Brianna Williams of Kirkwood Community College on next year’s roster.
