Compete at Drake, Simpson

RAPIDS, Iowa -- Three Mount Mercy College relay teams raced at
the Drake Relays in Des Moines, Iowa, and full squads competed
at the Kip Janvrin Simpson College Open Friday in Indianola.
The women's
4x400 meter relay team of senior Christine French, freshman Kelli
Dabroski, sophomore Melissa Caster and junior Liz Lange recorded
the fourth-best time in school history, finishing in 4:12.28.
French, Lange, Dabroski and sophomore Mary Jo Nie ran the sixth-fastest
time in the 4x100 meter relay, crossing the finish line in :51.03.
The Mustangs men's 4x400 meter relay team of sophomore Greg Blythe,
junior Bryan Jones and sophomores Matt Hilby and Devin Sanders
ran the race in 3:33.58.
Freshman Katrina
Burke, sophomore Katie Schlutz and junior Tera Behning teamed
with Nie to win the 4x400 meter relay at Simpson in 4:35.30. Behning
also cracked the school's top 10 list in the 800 meter run with
a time of 2:29.47. Sophomore Katie Larsen did the same in the
5,000 meter run, finishing in 19:31.55 for the ninth-best time
in school history.
On the men's
side, Jones and seniors Kaylon Spengler and Dillon Cline produced
top 10 performances. Jones ran the 10th-fastest 200 meter dash
in school history (:23.13), while Spengler's 16:17.47 in the 5,000
meter run was sixth all-time. Cline had the fifth-best distance
in the discus, throwing it 138'-6".
The 2006 Midwest
Classic Conference Outdoor Track & Field Championships are
Thursday and Friday, May 4-5 in Dubuque, Iowa. The Mount Mercy
women are the two-time defending conference champions, while the
Mustang men last won the MCC title in 2004.
