Larsen Nabs Weekly Track Honor

CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa -- Mount Mercy College sophomore Katie Larsen, who ran a school record and MCC season-best in the 3,000 meter run at Friday's UNI-Dome Open, is the Midwest Classic Conference Female Track Athlete of the Week for Feb. 20.

Larsen was sixth in the 3,000 meters at the University of Northern Iowa, finishing in 11:03.37. She followed that with a third-place performance in the 3,000 at Saturday's Pioneer Open hosted by the University of Wisconsin-Platteville, crossing the finish line in 11:15.90. Junior Liz Lange was seventh in the 200 meter dash (:27.36) and 11th in the 60 meter dash (:08.26) at UNI. Senior Christine French finished seventh in the triple jump (31'-11.50") and junior Bryan Jones 11th in the 600 meter run (1:25.14).

There were plenty of top 10 finishes at Wisconsin-Platteville Saturday. In addition to Larsen's third-place finish in the 3,000 meters, Lange took third in the 200 meters (:27.30) and fifth in the 55 meter dash (:07.80). Junior Tera Behning came in third in the mile run (5:41.86) and fourth in the 800 meter run (2:33.33), while freshman Channing Weigel finished fifth in the 400 meter dash (1:06.92) and seventh in the 200 meters (:28.72). Senior Danielle Fennelly was third in the 5,000 meter run (20:50.92), French seventh in the 55 meter hurdles (:09.52).

On the men's side, Jones placed fifth in the 400 meters (:52.37) and sixth in the 200 meters (:23.76). Sophomore Bryan Johnson was fifth in the mile (4:41.05) and seventh in the 3,000 meters (9:45.98). Senior Kaylon Spengler finished fourth in the 3,000 meters (9:31.40), senior Nate Hopp fifth in the 5,000 meters (17:21.31), sophomore Matt Hilby eighth in the 800 meters (2:09.62) and freshman Devin Sanders ninth in 800 meters (2:11.78).

The Mustangs wrap up the indoor season Saturday at the Pointer Qualifier at 10:30 a.m. in Stevens Point, Wis. Mount Mercy opens the outdoor schedule at the Cornell College Relays Saturday, April 8 at 10:00 a.m. in Mount Vernon, Iowa.
