Spengler Sweep MCC Track Awards

RAPIDS, Iowa -- Mount Mercy College junior Liz Lange and senior
Kaylon Spengler have been named Midwest Classic Conference Track
Athletes of the Week for Feb. 6.
It's the second
such honor for both student-athletes, who led the Mustangs at
the Hilltop Invitational hosted by Cornell College Saturday at
the Small Multi-Sport Center in Mount Vernon, Iowa. Lange claimed
the award for the second week in a row, while Spengler picked
up his first award Jan. 23.
Lange set
a school record while finishing second in the women's 200 meter
dash (:27.13). She also placed third in the 55 meter dash (:07.61)
and teamed with freshman Channing Weigel, senior Christine French
and sophomore Diana Meyer to set a school mark while taking third
place in the 4x400 meter relay in 4:16.39. Spengler finished fifth
in the men's 5,000 meter run (16:31.82) and seventh in the 1,000
meters (2:54.14). His times in both events were the best in the
MCC this season.
Meyer and
sophomore Katie Larsen also set school records at the Hilltop
Invitational. Meyer set a new standard while finishing second
in the 400 meter dash (1:02.79), while Larsen became the first
woman in school history to run the indoor 5,000 meters in under
20 minutes (19:56.09).
Up next for
Mount Mercy is the Fighting Scot Invitational hosted by Monmouth
College (Ill.) Saturday at 10:00 a.m. at the Huff Athletic Center
in Monmouth, Ill. The following weekend is the UNI-Dome Open at
the University of Northern Iowa Friday, Feb. 17 at 3:00 p.m. in
Cedar Falls, Iowa, and the University of Wisconsin-Platteville
Pioneer Open Saturday, Feb. 18 at 11:30 a.m. in Platteville, Wis.
