Three Mustangs Honored by MCC

CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa -- After strong performances Saturday at the Cornell College Dual, three Mount Mercy College standouts were honored as Midwest Classic Conference Track & Field Athletes of the Week for Jan. 30, the league announced.

Junior Bryan Jones, who won the 55 meter dash (:06.87) and finished third while setting a school record in the 500 meter dash (1:10.95), was named MCC Men's Track Athlete of the Week. Junior Liz Lange won the 55 meter dash (:07.58) and 200 meter dash (:27.59) to claim the MCC Women's Track Athlete of the Week award, while senior Christine French earned the MCC Women's Field Athlete of the Week honor by finishing second and setting a school record in the pole vault (6'-6") and placing third in the triple jump (30'-4.25").

Four other Mustangs won events at Cornell's Multi-Sport Center. On the women's side, sophomore Katie Larsen was first in the mile run (5:38.50) and 3,000 meter run (11:30.35). Sophomore Diana Meyer set a school record while winning the 400 meter dash (1:03.15), while Channing Weigel also shattered a school mark while claiming the 500 meter dash (1:24.61). Senior Kaylon Spengler was the men's 3,000 meter champion with a time of 9:44.09.

Mount Mercy's men's and women's track & field teams go back to Cornell Saturday for the Hilltop Invitational at 10:00 a.m. After that, the Mustangs head to Monmouth, Ill., on Saturday, Feb. 11 for the Fighting Scot Invitational beginning at 10:00 a.m. at the Huff Athletic Center.
