Mercy Women Claim Third Straight MCC Crown

Iowa -- Led by senior Christine French and junior Liz Lange, the
Mount Mercy College women won their third straight MCC title while
the Mustang men finished fourth at the 2006 Midwest Classic Conference
Outdoor Track & Field Championships Thursday-Friday in Dubuque,
Iowa. Complete
Results
French, who
won the 400 meter hurdles and helped the Mustangs win 4x100 and
4x400 meter relay crowns, was named 2006 Women's Most Outstanding
Performer. Mount Mercy's Ryan Scheckel earned 2006 Women's Coach
of the Year honors. Aaron Burns of Ashford University and Brianne
Appel of men's champion St. Ambrose University were the 2006 Men's
Most Outstanding Performer and Men's Coach of the Year.
Five Mount
Mercy women, including French, were champions at the MCC meet.
Lange took home five awards, winning the 100 meter dash, 200 meter
dash and 400 meter dash while helping the Mustangs win the 4x100
and 4x400 meter relays. Sophomore Mary Jo Nie and freshman Kelli
Dabroski were also part of the 4x100 and 4x400 meter relay championships,
and sophomore Katie Larsen earned the 3,000 meter steeplechase
crown.
On the men's
side, senior Kaylon Spengler, junior Bryan Jones and sophomores
Matt Hilby and Devin Sanders teamed up for the 4x800 meter relay
title. Jones also won the 100 meter dash and senior Dillon Cline
won the javelin.
The Mount
Mercy women earned the team title with 206 points. St. Ambrose
was runner-up at 182, Grand View College third at 110, William
Penn University fourth at 82, Ashford fifth at 23 and Iowa Wesleyan
College sixth at 15.
St. Ambrose
outscored William Penn 131-118 for the men's championship. Grand
View was third at 116, Mount Mercy fourth at 98, Ashford fifth
at 94 and Iowa Wesleyan sixth at 55.
Mount Mercy
will be in action again on Friday at the Dr. Keeler Invitational
hosted by North Central College (Ill.) at 3:00 p.m. in Naperville,
Ill.
