INDIANOLA,
Iowa -- Not only did Mount Mercy College freshman Mallory Marshall
qualify for the NAIA outdoor track & field championships at
the Kip Janvrin Simpson College Open on Friday, but she did it
while breaking school records previously held by her older sisters,
Amy and Leslie.
Mallory finished
ninth in the 3,000 meter steeplechase with a time of 11:40.21,
good enough for a berth in the national meet and shattering Amy's
school record of 11:53.50 at the Augustana College (Ill.) Invitational
in 2002. Mallory also narrowly missed qualifying for the national
meet in the 5,000 meter run, but did place 12th in the event in
18:31.90, breaking Leslie's school mark of 19:00.00 set in 1999.
The 2007 NAIA
Outdoor Track & Field Championships will be held Thursday-Saturday,
May 24-26, at Fresno Pacific University (Calif.) in Fresno, Calif.
Next up for the Mustangs, however, is the 2007 Midwest Classic
Conference Outdoor Track & Field Championships Thursday and
Friday, May 3-4, at Cornell College in Mount Vernon, Iowa. The
Mount Mercy women go for their fourth straight MCC outdoor championship,
while the Mustang men try for their first-ever outdoor title.
