Medley Relay Team Qualifies for Indoor Nationals

CEDAR RAPIDS,
Iowa -- Four more Mount Mercy College student-athletes qualified
for the NAIA indoor national meet last weekend at the UNI-Dome
Open hosted by the University of Northern Iowa on Friday in Cedar
Falls, Iowa.
Juniors Katie
Larsen and Melissa Caster and freshmen Chelsea Kvidera and Mallory
Marshall reached the qualifying standard during a third-place
finish with a time of 12:58.38. They will join freshman Alyssa
Maher at the NAIA Indoor Track & Field Championships March
8-10 in Johnson City, Tenn. Maher qualified for the national meet
in the 55 meter hurdles Feb. 3 at the Hilltop Invitational hosted
by Cornell College in Mount Vernon, Iowa.
Five Mount
Mercy women also produced top-five finishes at the University
of Wisconsin-Platteville Open on Saturday in Platteville, Wis.
Kvidera (3:20.72), Larsen (3:25.41) and junior Katie Schlutz (3:38.78)
finished first, second and third in the 1,000 meter run. Maher
placed second in the finals of the 55 meter hurdles in :08.92,
narrowly missing her school record time of :08.90 at the Hilltop
Invitational. Marshall came in fourth in the one mile run with
a time of 5:44.06.
On the men's
side, junior Matt Hilby finished third in the 1,000 meter run
in 2:57.67, while senior Bryan Jones placed fourth in the 400
meter run in :51.89, the third fastest time in school history.
