JOHNSON CITY,
Tenn. -- Mount Mercy College freshman Alyssa Maher set a school
record in the 60 meter hurdles and the distance medley relay team
also ran well at the 2007 NAIA Indoor Track & Field Championships
at the Memorial Center.
Maher ran
third in the first heat of Friday's preliminaries of the 60 meter
hurdles with a school record time of :09.31, breaking Stephanie
Francois' mark of :09.65 set at the UNI-Dome Open in 2002. Maher
ended up 15th out of 27 competitors in the preliminaries but did
not qualify for Friday afternoon's semifinals.
The distance
medley relay team of juniors Katie Larsen and Melissa Caster and
freshmen Chelsea Kvidera and Mallory Marshall finished eighth
in heat one of Thursday's preliminary round with a time of 13:02.47.
Although the Mustangs finished 16th out of 19 teams and did not
advance to Saturday's finals, their time was second in school
history behind the 12:58.38 turned in by the same group at the
UNI-Dome Open on Feb. 16.
The Mount
Mercy men's and women's track & field teams will travel to
Atlanta, Ga., during spring break for the Emory (Ga.) Invitational
on Saturday, March 24, at 10:00 a.m. The outdoor season continues
with the Viking Olympics, hosted by Augustana College (Ill.),
on Saturday, March 31, at noon in Rock Island, Ill.
