ROCK ISLAND,
Ill. -- Mount Mercy College freshmen Mallory Marshall and Alyssa
Maher made a successful trip to the Augustana College (Ill.) Open
on Friday.
Marshall,
already a national outdoor qualifier in the 3,000 meter steeplechase,
shattered her own school record and reached the NAIA's qualifying
standard in the 5,000 meter run. She was runner-up in the event
with a time of 18:23.78.
Maher has
also been busy rewriting the record book this spring. After competing
at the NAIA indoor national meet in the 60 meter hurdles in March,
she will now race at the outdoor championships in the 100 meter
hurdles. Maher, who owns the top six performances in school history,
placed third at Augustana with a school-record time of :15.17.
That showing also earned her the Midwest Classic Conference Women's
Track Athlete of the Week award for May 14.
Marshall and
Maher will travel to Fresno, Calif., for the 2007 NAIA Outdoor
Track & Field Championships May 24-26.
