CEDAR RAPIDS,
Iowa -- Sophomore Alyssa Maher, who qualified for the NAIA outdoor
national meet for the second year in a row, and freshman Justin
Waring were named Midwest Collegiate Conference Track Athletes
of the Week for April 14.
Maher, a 2007
outdoor national qualifier in the 100 meter hurdles, reached the
qualifying standard in that event again at the Cornell College
Invitational on Saturday. She won the 100 hurdles, and her conference-leading
time of :15.24 was also the second-fastest in school history.
Maher also won the 400 meter hurdles, again with a conference-best
time of 1:10.82, and the long jump (16'-0") at Cornell.
Waring broke
the school record held by his coach, Ryan Scheckel, in a second
place finish in the 800 meter run on Saturday. His time of 1:57.52
is the best in the MCC this outdoor season and bettered Scheckel's
1:57.93 set in 2000. Waring also anchored Mount Mercy's 4x400
meter relay team to a second place finish at Cornell.
The Mustangs
go to the Dick Young Classic hosted by Grinnell College on Saturday
at 9:00 a.m. in Grinnell, Iowa.
