repeats as MCC Track Athlete of the Week

Iowa -- Senior Katie Larsen has been named Midwest Collegiate
Conference Women's Track Athlete of the Week for Feb. 11 after
posting the fastest times in the MCC at Friday's NAIA Challenge
in Storm Lake, Iowa.
Larsen, who
also earned last week's award, placed third in the mile run with
a time of 5:34.35 and finished fourth in the 3,000 meter run in
11:04.81 on Friday. Both times are the best in the league during
the 2008 indoor season and are second in school history.
Several other
Mustangs also produced top-10 finishes at the NAIA Challenge or
Mount Mercy all-time top-10 performances. Freshman Erin Behan
finished sixth with a school-record and conference-leading time
of 19:40.13 in the 5,000 meter run. Sophomore Alyssa Maher raced
third in the 55 meter hurdles with a time of :08.89, which is
third all-time at Mount Mercy. She also finished sixth in the
200 meter dash in :27.65. Sophomore Chelsea Kvidera was 10th in
the 1,000 meter run in 3:27.86, while freshman Kelsey Hansen posted
the sixth-best distance in school history in the weight throw
with a toss of 30'-10.75".
On the men's
side, the 4x800 meter relay team of sophomore Scott Becker, freshmen
Justin Waring and Aaron Stephens, and senior Bryan Johnson set
a school record with a time of 8:21.02 on Friday. That performance
also ranks as the best in the MCC this season. Becker also placed
sixth in the 1,000 meter run with the eighth-best time in school
history (2:45.00). Senior Dustin Henderson finished sixth in the
400 meter dash in :52.78, while freshman Matt Clarke ran 10th
in the mile run in 5:32.26.
Coming up,
it's the UW-P Open hosted by the University of Wisconsin-Platteville
on Saturday at 11:30 a.m. in Platteville, Wis. The first-ever
Midwest Collegiate Conference Indoor Invitational will be Saturday,
Feb. 23, at 10:00 a.m. in Sterling, Ill.
