wins league award for third straight week

CEDAR RAPIDS,
Iowa -- Mount Mercy College senior Katie Larsen, who qualified
for the NAIA indoor national meet with a school-record performance
in the 3,000 meter run, is the Midwest Collegiate Conference Women's
Track Athlete of the Week for the third straight week.
Larsen placed
sixth in the 3,000 meters at the Nike Impact Sports Open hosted
by the University of Wisconsin-Platteville on Saturday in Platteville,
Wis. She shattered her own school record and posted the top time
in the MCC this season, crossing the finish line in 10:42.91.
That also met the qualifying standard for the NAIA Indoor Track
& Field Championships in March.
Two other
school records fell on Saturday. Freshman Aaron Stephens bettered
his own mark in the high jump with a leap of 6'-1.25". He
teamed up with freshman Justin Waring, senior Dustin Henderson,
and sophomore Scott Becker to break the school record in the distance
medley relay with a time of 11:02.22. Waring also ran the second-fastest
time in school history in the 800 meter run, finishing in 2:01.00.
Senior Nate Lahner tossed the shot put 41'-10", which ranks
second all-time.
On the women's
side, five Mustangs cracked Mount Mercy's all-time top 10.
Freshmen Kelsey Hansen and Danielle Darbyshire posted the fourth-
and seventh-best distances in the weight throw. Hansen with a
toss of 34'-10.25" and Darbyshire with a 30'-11.75"
throw. Sophomore Alyssa Maher, who qualified for indoor nationals
in the 55 meter hurdles in the first meet of the season, added
the sixth-best time in school history in that event on Saturday
(:08.91). Freshman Erin Behan recorded the sixth-best time in
the mile run (5:38.01), while senior Katie Schlutz added the eight-best
time in the 5,000 meter run (20:14.56).
The first-ever
MCC Indoor Invitational is Saturday at 10:00 a.m. in Sterling,
Ill. After that, Larsen and Maher compete at the NAIA indoor national
championships March 6-8 in Johnson City, Tenn.
