MOUNT VERNON, Iowa -- Sophomore Alyssa Maher was runner-up while breaking her own school record in the 55 meter hurdles and senior Katie Larsen was a top-10 finisher in a pair of events as Mount Mercy College competed at Cornell College's Hilltop Open on Saturday at the Small Multi-Sport Center.

Maher, an NAIA indoor national meet qualifier in the 55 meter hurdles as a freshman, bettered her own mark of :08.79 at the season-opening University of Wisconsin-Platteville Open on Jan. 19. After running :08.98 in the second heat at Cornell, she ran :08.76 in the finals, just .01 behind Barb Kremer of Loras College.

Larsen posted the second-best time in school history in the 3,000 meter run, finishing fourth in the event with a time of 11:05.99. Her 11:03.37 at the UNI-Dome Open is a Mount Mercy record. Larsen also placed seventh in the mile run in 5:36.43, just under three minutes behind her school mark set at last year's Hilltop Open.

Freshman Aaron Stephens also set a school record on Saturday with a leap of 6'-0" in the high jump. It surpassed his own mark of 5'-10.5" at the season-opening University of Wisconsin-Platteville Open on Jan. 19.

Freshman Kelsey Hansen, sophomore Dustin Henderson, and the men's 4x400 meter relay team also posted all-time top-10 performances for the Mustangs. Hansen's 29'-8" toss moved her into ninth place in the women's weight throw. Henderson placed fifth at Cornell in the 400 meter dash with a time of :52.59, 10th-best in school history. The 4x400 meter relay team of Henderson, sophomore Scott Becker, Stephens, and freshman Justin Waring took over seventh place on the career sheet with a time of 3:38.47.

Next up for the Mustangs will be the NAIA Challenge on Friday at 2:00 p.m. in Storm Lake, Iowa. Then it's back to Platteville, Wis., for the UW-P Open on Saturday, Feb. 16, at 11:30 a.m.
