win six events at MCC indoor meet

STERLING,
Ill. -- The Mount Mercy College men's and women's track &
field teams brought home six titles from the 2008 Midwest Collegiate
Conference Indoor Invitational on Saturday at Westwood Sports
Center.
Senior Katie
Larsen, an NAIA indoor national meet qualifier in the 3,000 meter
run, won that event as well as the one-mile run. She took the
3,000 meter title in 11:13.44 and broke her own school record
by more than six seconds while claiming the mile in 5:26.55.
Freshman Erin
Behan and sophomore Alyssa Maher also claimed titles on Saturday.
Behan shattered her school mark in the 5,000 meter run by more
than three seconds, crossing the finish line in 19:36.39. Maher,
who has also qualified for the NAIA indoor national meet in the
55 meter hurdles, won Saturday's race with the third-best time
in school history (:08.81).
The Mustang
men won the 4x800 meter relay (8:22.69) and distance medley relay
(11:43.41), while senior Dustin Henderson, sophomore Scott Becker,
and freshman Justin Waring were runner-up in three events. Henderson
was second in the 400 meter dash (:52.99), Becker in the mile
run with the second-fastest time in school history (4:38.47),
and Waring in the 800 meter run (2:01.84). Waring also broke a
nine-year-old school record in the 1,000 meters, running it in
2:34.98, while senior Nate Lahner set a new school record in the
shot put with a toss of 42-04.25.
Larsen and
Maher will compete at the NAIA Indoor Track & Field Championships
March 6-8 in Johnson City, Tenn., before Mount Mercy opens the
2008 outdoor season at the Easter Open on Friday, March 21, at
4:00 p.m. in Fayette, Mo.
