CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa -- Mount Mercy College senior Katie Schlutz qualified for the NAIA outdoor national meet in the marathon based on her school-record performance at Saturday's Midland Lutheran College (Neb.) Half-Marathon in Fremont, Neb.

Schlutz finished in 1:35:38, breaking Lynnette Montang's mark of 1:36:40 set at the Drake Relays in 1998. She reached the qualifying standard of 1:36:00 and will compete in the marathon at the 2008 NAIA Outdoor Track & Field Championships May 22-24 in St. Louis, Mo.

Mount Mercy seniors Greg Blythe and Matt Hilby also ran the half-marathon at Midland Lutheran, and both surpassed the previous school record in the event set by Lance Cook at the Drake Relays in 1994. Blythe is the new record holder with a time of 1:18:54, while Hilby is second in school history after running the event in 1:21:38.

The Mount Mercy men and women compete at the Easter Open, hosted by Central Methodist University (Mo.), at 4:00 p.m. on Friday in Fayette, Mo.
