Three Mustangs earn league honors

CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa -- Freshman Justin Waring, senior Matt Hilby, and sophomore Alyssa Maher have been named Midwest Collegiate Conference Track & Field Athletes of the Week for March 24 after weekend performances at the Easter Open hosted by Central Methodist University (Mo.) in Fayette, Mo.

Waring was the MCC Men's Track Athlete of the Week after placing third in the 800 meter run with a conference-leading time of 1:59.34 and anchored Mount Mercy's 4x400 meter relay team to a second-place finish in 3:31.64, also the top time in the MCC this spring.

Maher, the MCC Women's Track Athlete of the Week, posted league bests in three events. She was first in the 100 meter hurdles in :15.45 and second in the 100 meter dash in :13.23. Maher also anchored the 4x100 meter relay squad to a third place finish in :53.11.

Hilby was the MCC Men's Field Athlete of the Week after winning the javelin with a conference-leading throw of 168'-4" on Friday.

Next for the Mustangs will be the Viking Olympics hosted by Augustana College (Ill.) on Saturday at noon in Rock Island, Ill.
