DUBUQUE, Iowa -- The Mount Mercy College women's track & field team won its fifth straight conference title on Friday, tying Grand View College for the league crown for the second year in a row at the 2008 Midwest Collegiate Conference Outdoor Championships at Loras College.

Mount Mercy senior Katie Larsen took home three championships, including the 5,000 meter run (19:18.06), 10,000 meter run (40:17.55), and 3,000 meter steeplechase (12:15.26). She also finished third in the 1,500 meter run with a time of 5:16.88. Head Coach Ryan Scheckel picked up his fifth MCC Women's Coach of the Year award.

Several Mustangs produced top-five finishes. Sophomore Alyssa Maher was runner-up in the 100 meter hurdles (:15.40) and 400 meter hurdles (1:07.94), fourth in the 100 meter dash (:13.28) and triple jump (32'-5.5"), and fifth in the 200 meter dash (:27.92).

Freshman Erin Behan and senior Katie Schlutz each placed in the top five in three events. Behan ran second in the 10,000 meters (40:47.48), third in the 3,000 meter steeplechase (12:32.34), and fifth in the 1,500 meters (5:27.19). Schlutz was fourth in the 10,000 meters (42:54.85), steeplechase (13:04.99), and javelin (110'-2").

Sophomore Chelsea Kvidera and freshman Kori Yotter were each top-five finishers in a pair of events. Kvidera was runner-up in the 1,500 meters (5:08.46) and third in the 800 meter run (2:29.52), while Yotter placed fourth in the 800 (2:29.81) and 1,500 meters (5:20.81). Senior Heather Collum took fifth in the steeplechase (13:25.15) and freshman Emilie Warren fifth in the 400 meter dash (1:02.57).

Three women's relay teams also finished third or better. The 4x800 meter relay squad of Kvidera, Warren, Yotter, and Larsen placed second in 10:10.85. Freshman Alexa Francois, Maher, Warren, and freshman Beca Orvella were third in the 4x100 meter relay (:52.38), as were Warren, Yotter, Kvidera, and Maher in the 4x400 meter relay (4:15.09).

Senior Matt Hilby claimed Mount Mercy's only title on the men's side, but it was a big one. His winning toss of 181'-3" in the javelin was a new conference meet record and the second-best toss in school history. Freshmen Justin Waring and Aaron Stephens, senior Nate Lahner, and sophomore Scott Becker were also top-five finishers. Waring was runner-up in the 800 (1:57.06) and 1,500 meters (4:12.53).
