RAPIDS, Iowa -- Mount
Mercy College Head Women’s Basketball Coach Shawn Stimmel
has announced that Monticello High School standout Terri Dirks
has signed a letter of intent to join the Mustangs next season.
Dirks, a 6-0
forward, averaged 12 points and eight rebounds per game as a senior
for Head Coach Donnie Kramer. The all-conference and all-district
performer also made the all-tournament team after helping the
Panthers reach the semifinals of the 2008 Iowa Class 2A state
tournament. Monticello was 46-7 the past two years.
Dirks, the
daughter of Kraig and Gina Dirks, joins her sister, Jessie, on
the Mount Mercy women’s basketball roster. Jessie, a 5-7
junior guard, was an all-Midwest Collegiate Conference pick after
leading the Mustangs in scoring last season at 14.5 points per
game.
“Terri
is a very good addition to our recruiting class,” said Stimmel.
“She’s been well coached and played in two state tournaments.
Terri gives us more size and athleticism and can score inside
and out. I’m confident with her skill and work ethic she
can make an immediate impact.”
Mount Mercy's
2008-09 recruiting class now includes Dirks, Adrian Nelson of
Oelwein High School, and Kristi Branham of Highland High School.
