CEDAR RAPIDS,
Iowa -- Visiting Grand View College shot 59 percent from the floor
in the second half and defeated Mount Mercy College, 74-66, in
Midwest Collegiate Conference women's basketball on Tuesday at
Hennessey Recreation Center.
The Vikings
(7-8, 1-0 MCC) led for most of the first period and took a five-point
advantage into the lockerroom at halftime. They led by as many
as 16 after the break until the Mustangs (4-9, 1-1 MCC) came back.
Mount Mercy was within six at the four-minute mark, but Grand
View scored five straight points to go up by 11 with 1:50 remaining.
Junior guard
Jessie Dirks finished with 18 points, four rebounds, and four
assists for the Mustangs, who were just 2-of-17 from 3-point range.
Junior guard Kelli Dabroski added 16 points, senior forward Chelsie
Patik 13 points, and senior forward Addie McCreedy 10 points and
a team-high six boards.
Jodi Nikkel
posted a double-double for the Vikings, scoring a game-high 21
points to go along with 10 rebounds. Tanna Slings chipped in 15
points, Angie Creighton 14 points, four boards, and four assists.
Bailey Schechinger joined them in double digits with 10 points
and five assists. Micah Reed also handed out five assists for
Grand View.
Mount Mercy
is off until the Clarke College Holiday Tournament Dec. 27-31
in Dubuque, Iowa. The two-time defending champs open the tournament
against Robert Morris College (Ill.) on Friday, Dec. 28, at 9:30
a.m. at the Kehl Center on the Clarke campus. Click
