CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa -- The Mount Mercy College women's basketball team shot a sizzling 57 percent from the field, including a 5-for-6 performance in overtime, to defeat Viterbo University (Wis.), 76-69, in Midwest Collegiate Conference action Saturday at Hennessey Recreation Center.

The visiting V-Hawks (9-13, 4-4 MCC) led by as many as seven points early in the contest, but the Mustangs (8-13, 5-3 MCC), bolstered by 15 points off the bench, took a three-point advantage by intermission. Neither team went up by more than five after the break, and it was junior guard Kelli Dabroski's free throws with 29 seconds left that forced overtime.

Back-to-back buckets by senior forward Addie McCreedy and Dabroski gave the Mustangs a quick four-point lead in the extra session, and junior guard Jessie Dirks scored Mount Mercy's final six points to seal their fourth consecutive win. The Mustangs took sole possession of fourth place in the MCC, and can continue to work their way up the ladder when they take on Grand View College on Monday at 5:30 p.m. at Charles Johnson Wellness Center in Des Moines, Iowa.

Dirks led all scorers with 16 points. The league's leading free throw shooter was 6-of-7 at the line as the Mustangs outscored the V-Hawks, 17-8, from the charity stripe. McCreedy added 15 points, a team-high six rebounds, and four steals. Mount Mercy's bench contributed 25 points, including 13 from freshman guard Heather Bachman and 12 by senior forward Chelsie Patik.

Katie Mechling's 14 points led four V-Hawks in double figures. Audrah Berger chipped in 13, Raelyn Hayes 11, and Kari Thiel 10. Katina Mandylaris grabbed a team-best five rebounds, Thiel dished out six assists, and Berger claimed four steals.

After traveling to Grand View on Monday, Mount Mercy goes to Iowa Wesleyan College on Thursday for a 5:30 p.m. contest at Ruble Arena in Mount Pleasant, Iowa.
