MOUNT PLEASANT, Iowa -- Iowa Wesleyan College led by four points at halftime and used a 20-6 run midway through the second period to defeat Mount Mercy College, 71-60, in Midwest Collegiate Conference women's basketball Thursday at Ruble Arena.

The Tigers (14-6, 8-2 MCC) led by as many as seven points in the opening period and 17 in the second half before the Mustangs (8-15, 5-5 MCC) got within seven with a minute left in the game. Four straight free throws by Ali DeVries and Kayleigh Epps put the game away for Iowa Wesleyan, which avenged a 72-49 loss at Mount Mercy on Dec. 2.

Junior guard Kelli Dabroski made all three of her 3-point attempts and finished with a team-high 15 points and four assists. Senior forward Addie McCreedy added 14 points, freshman guard Heather Bachman 11. McCreedy also grabbed five boards, but the Mustangs were outrebounded by the Tigers, 34-29.

Epps led four Tigers in double figures with 18 points. She also had five rebounds and three steals. Brooke Newton scored 17 points and hauled down 13 boards. Brittany Okland tallied 12 points and five rebounds, DeVries 11 points and a pair of steals.

Mount Mercy has league matchups with Waldorf College and St. Ambrose University next week. The Mustangs host the Warriors on Wednesday at 5:30 p.m. and the NAIA Division II 18th-ranked Queen Bees on Saturday at 1:00 p.m. at Hennessey Recreation Center in Cedar Rapids, Iowa.
