earn split of season series

MOUNT PLEASANT,
Iowa -- Iowa Wesleyan College led by four points at halftime and
used a 20-6 run midway through the second period to defeat Mount
Mercy College, 71-60, in Midwest Collegiate Conference women's
basketball Thursday at Ruble Arena.
The Tigers
(14-6, 8-2 MCC) led by as many as seven points in the opening
period and 17 in the second half before the Mustangs (8-15, 5-5
MCC) got within seven with a minute left in the game. Four straight
free throws by Ali DeVries and Kayleigh Epps put the game away
for Iowa Wesleyan, which avenged a 72-49 loss at Mount Mercy on
Dec. 2.
Junior guard
Kelli Dabroski made all three of her 3-point attempts and finished
with a team-high 15 points and four assists. Senior forward Addie
McCreedy added 14 points, freshman guard Heather Bachman 11. McCreedy
also grabbed five boards, but the Mustangs were outrebounded by
the Tigers, 34-29.
Epps led four
Tigers in double figures with 18 points. She also had five rebounds
and three steals. Brooke Newton scored 17 points and hauled down
13 boards. Brittany Okland tallied 12 points and five rebounds,
DeVries 11 points and a pair of steals.
Mount Mercy
has league matchups with Waldorf College and St. Ambrose University
next week. The Mustangs host the Warriors on Wednesday at 5:30
p.m. and the NAIA Division II 18th-ranked Queen Bees on Saturday
at 1:00 p.m. at Hennessey Recreation Center in Cedar Rapids, Iowa.
