hold off Mustangs

FOREST CITY,
Iowa -- In a contest that featured 13 ties and 21 lead changes,
Waldorf College scored the game's final four points and defeated
Mount Mercy College, 72-69, in Midwest Collegiate Conference women's
basketball Wednesday at Hanson Fieldhouse.
The Warriors
(9-6, 2-1 MCC) defeated the Mustangs (4-12, 1-2 MCC) for the first
time in three games and extended Mount Mercy's losing streak to
eight. Waldorf was the sixth straight opponent to score at least
70 points against the Mustangs, and Mount Mercy is 0-9 when giving
up 70 points or more this season.
Despite the
loss, the Mustangs witnessed the impressive debut of Heather Bachman.
The freshman guard, who just joined the team in January, nailed
all four of her 3-point attempts and finished with a team-high
14 points in only 16 minutes. Junior guards Becky Schneider and
Jessie Dirks joined Bachman in double figures. Schneider scored
11 of her 12 points in the first half, while Dirks tallied 10
points, seven rebounds, four assists, and three steals. Freshman
guard Kadie Carman dealt a career-high six assists to along with
three steals.
Kate Milbrandt
had a game-high 15 points for Waldorf. Rachel Hannam added 12
points and nine rebounds, Cari Cimmiyotti 10 points, and Megan
Forster and Nicole Lunning nine points each. Forster also grabbed
eight boards to lead the Warriors to a 38-29 advantage on the
glass.
Mount Mercy
travels to Davenport, Iowa, to take on NAIA Division II 17th-ranked
St. Ambrose University on Saturday at 1:00 p.m. at Lee Lohman
Arena. The Mustangs come home next week, hosting Clarke College
on Wednesday at 5:30 p.m. at Hennessey Recreation Center in Cedar
Rapids, Iowa.
